After carting an MFJ-1271 whip all over the world with me with mediocre results, at best, I now carry the tuner and a 3 lb roll of 28 gauge transformer wire. Where I can I string it or dangle it as far as I can practically and let it rip. Recently, however, I have found that more and more of the newer high-rise hotels have sealed, never-to-be-opened windows. Consequently, I have been forced to wrap the wire around my room as much as I can at the ceiling level. After attaching a random length wire roughly half the length of the ceiling wire, I have achieved acceptable results. BTW, the qrp+, solar panels, key, 7 amph battery and assorted necessary junk all fit into a classic aluminum suitcase surrounded by foam. I keep the station packed and ready to roll or fly as the case may be. My favorite portable antenna is still the Hy-Gain tape measure dipole when camping, canoeing, etc. de Mike, KR4IT qrp-l 444 ars 11
