If the cell is soldered in, there is an exact item replacement available from All Electronics Corp. Their part number LBAT-16, 75 cents each in single quantities, with lower quantity prices for 20, 100 or 1000. The original part number is Panasonic #BR2330-1GU. It is a 3V 255 mAh coin cell with solder tabs. Cell is 0.9" diameter, 0.12" thick, with 0.7" between positive and negative PC leads. This is a lot cheaper than we pay ICOM for the identical item. The lithiums last a good long while on the shelf, so no harm in stocking up. Our experience has been that these things start to die pretty reliably at about 7 years. On portables, if the thing starts losing programming after being turned off for a week, there's your problem. The zombie radio goes back to the shop, they program it, send it back to you and by the time it gets to you it's dead again. The lithiums seem to need a good solid 3.x volts to hold memory properly. Any lithium can be used for a backup battery if you can get the thing physically connected.
