Thus D5 is April 1995 (unless the thing has been around since 1985...very unlikely!) So what's being manufactured today is K7 batteries. The codes are usually branded into the case and usually appear on a small round two bycolor paper sticker as well. This simi-open date code serves the industry in that adjustment is made according to date of manufacture if the customer is unable to present a receipt or other proof of purchase. Hope this helps.
