- 611 steams away. My car and I were left covered in soot. The whistle was loud enough to rattle my chest cavity.
I was fortunate enough to be able to capture N&W #611 as it passed through Ironton, Ohio, in June of 1993 pulling a steam excursion. I chased it from Ironton on into Portsmouth, Ohio.
About a year after this excursion, Norfolk Southern pulled the plug on steam excursions.
